Testimonials for Cyclesoles…
I’ve always had flat feet and about 3.5 years ago I broke my right ankle. The result of my flat feet plus restricted range of motion on my right ankle consisted of: choppy pedal stroke, distinct power discrepancy (perceived) between legs, and knee soreness on both legs on > 60 mile rides (left power compensating for the right and poor alignment on the right).
I wasn’t used to having material under my arches. Julie was pretty accurate when she said it initially felt like a walnut was below your arch. The first day of cycling took some getting used to. I was so used to having my foot flex and pronate under load that having it stable felt unnatural and a little uncomfortable. Scott and Julie suggested a 200 mile break-in so your foot can adjust and the sole material can compress and settle. After the first two rides, it started to feel right. Legs were going straight up and down and all of a sudden I was able to use my right leg more.
The almost 200 mile report: I wish I had these in all my shoes off and on the bike. While the power gains are perceived, I feel like I’m using much closer to equal power between my legs. Knee pain is eliminated and my pedal stroke is much smoother. I have more power and control on the upstroke (which I didn’t even have with my bad ankle). When fitting the Cyclesole, they took into account my restricted range of motion of my whacked ankle and adjusted the arch accordingly. I feel overall much more symmetrical sitting and pedaling the bike. My knees do less inward deflection and I am having to train some previously minimally used muscles now that I have a better pedal stroke.
Overall, excellent product. Glad I did it. The only complaint I have now is I have to find somewhere to get my normal shoes fit for orthotics!
Thanks Julie for the opportunity. I encourage anybody with flat feet or knee problems to give it a shot.

Thank you! Thank you! The first one for the initial bike fit & Cyclesoles and the second one for the most recent follow-up adjustments. I really like how I feel with the most recent adjustment. As I mentioned to you before, my knees have never felt better. I am definitely striking on the down-stroke more cleanly and with more stability. I truly believe that the bike fit and Cyclesoles are positive factors for the health of my two surgically repaired knees. Since last week, I broke two more personal power records, but more importantly, twice I achieved my goal of attaining a higher average power than my average HR. Although it does not appear to be a great accomplishment, it really is for me personally since I have only achieved it two other times from May 2009 until last week. I plan to give you a more comprehensive before and after performance comparison in April. Until then, I will be enjoying my Cyclesoles and collecting data.

Super stoked about my new Cyclesoles from Julie Bates at Roaring Mouse Cycles. Seriously these are one of the greatest/most necessary cycling inventions I never thought I would need. They make a HUGE difference. Thanks again Julie.

I love my new Cyclesoles. The ache that I used to get in my feet during rides has completely gone away. I haven’t done any gnarly rides yet because I can’t bring myself to take my beautiful bike into muddy boggs, but all indications are looking good so far. Also, the bike fit is great. I have much more power and leverage with my legs than I used to on my old bike. I might want to raise the steering bar a smidge eventually, but I want to live with the current configuration for now. Thank you so much for your help. I’ll keep you posted once I get more miles on the bike.

Read what professional track racer and former National Champion, Gio, has to say about Cyclesoles on his blog.
I am still riding using the CycleSoles you made for me and they have gotten better and far more comfortable! I guess both the CycleSoles and the Sidi shoes I picked up last trip are broken in now.

Performance wise the CycleSoles are excellent and I continue to feel the “light” feeling in my knees and ankles that I was happy about when we were fitting my CycleSoles. CycleSoles have definitely helped to improve my riding, both in comfort and performance, crucial to them working though is a thorough and accurate fitting; Julie does an excellent job of this.

Julie,
Thanks so much for working with me on the new Cyclesoles. I didn’t get a chance to call you last week and since I know the shop is closed today, I figured I would email you a note.
I rode a couple of sessions on the trainer to get my feet used to the new arches and then did a 40-mile and 60-mile ride with my new Cyclesoles. I am not even sure where to begin. The soles have made an incredible difference in my ability to get power to the pedals. I wish that I were more of a data junkie so that I could provide data to support this – but suffice it to say that I believe that more (of my limited) watts are getting to the cranks with every effort. Another result is that my overall bike fit issues are clearer to me because I can feel the proper position for my feet. This is an incredible product and I will rave to anyone that will listen about the benefits. I know that Menko had a similar experience and has been promoting you and Cyclesoles also.
Thanks again for making this product available. I look forward to seeing you again soon,

Testimonials for our bike fit services…
The fit seems perfect. I’ve felt comfortable on four significant rides – 80+ miles and/or major hill-climbing, including Mt. Tam and San Bruno Mtn. – and there’ve been no new sore muscles or aches and pains, either. Interestingly, my control at speed was immediately better and I’ve generally been able to climb with more butt and less pure quad — all great. I’m seated much more comfortably when cruising. If there’s any possible tweak, it might be moving the brake/gear shifters, as you mentioned. I’ve used the drops some on downhills and the brake is a little stretch up. The thing is, the current set is really comfortable with hands on top, which is almost all the time, of course.

The bike feels great. I have not had the chance to go on a longer ride with the bike yet, but I do feel a significant difference while riding. Like I previously told you, my back used to hurt even on shorter rides, and that has gone away and I feel more comfortable riding now. I feel that the cleat adjustment and seat height change really benefited me. Once again thanks for the time to help me get fitted!
Mike, San Francisco
Julie, thank you very much for giving me a fresh new fit on my bike, oh and for being part babysitter. I got in a good ride this weekend and can really feel a difference. I think it’s from moving the saddle forward a bit. I feel tighter, i.e., more aero, but more comfortable at the same time. My upper back issue also seems to be improved.
Thanks again for taking time from your busy schedule to help me out (and learn a little bout us tri-geeks). Keep up the good work!
Dani, San Francisco
Hey, Julie, thanks for checking in. It shows that you really care. Sorry for taking a while to respond back but I wanted to get a few rides in so I would have some input. Overall, the bike fits great! I noticed a difference as soon as I rode away from the shop. I think the shim on my left cleat made the biggest difference in smoothing out my pedal stroke. The shorter stem also really reduced the back pain on long rides. The weekend after the fit, I went my first pain-free ride in almost three months. The new fit combined with your recommendation of hot yoga let me get in 75 strong miles, when before I could only do 20 at most, with lots of pain. I’m looking forward to building back up my fitness base and riding with the mice again.
Anthony, San Francisco
Julie, for the first time in weeks, I have been able to ride more than one day in a row and not be in numbing pain. A combination of stretching and a bike that actually fits. Raising the saddle to the proper height has changed everything. And, after you noticed it, I have been conscious of keeping the right knee from swinging out. Today I was able to do hill intervals. The pain felt good. So, thank you. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it.

Hi Julie, I completed the King’s Ridge Gran Fondo this past Saturday. It was the hardest ride I’ve ever done, and also I think the most rewarding. It was challenging and long, scenic and exhilarating, simply an awesome ride to complete. The bike held up better than me, no mechanical problems or flats. I could have used some utter butter. My shoulders were sore by the end, but no tingling pain shooting down my arm thankfully. Just wanted to let you know, and to thank you for working with me in getting a proper bike fit. I would not have lasted as long, or ridden as well without your help.

Hey Julie,
Funny, I have been thinking about this quite a bit lately. I have been trying to get my thoughts together enough to articulate some useful feedback. To give the summary, I was going to send a note to the list with the subject “My Fit is the SHIT!”.
After a little more time with the proper stem, it is painfully obvious how much more comfortable my new position is. If feels more relaxed, it feels easy like Sunday morning, more balanced in turns. I can’t think of any complaints or any thoughts of moving from this position. And yeah, I can even wrap my hands comfortably around the hoods.
